A survey was posted on the CARUSO AND THE SWORD (C.A.T.S.) Facebook page on March 6, 2011.  Nine individuals took the survey. Thank you to all who responded.

RESULTS REVIEW
Because the survey was posted on the Facebook page for a family film about fencing, it was not surprising that 9 of the 9 individuals who responded were interested in the film because of their interest in fencing.  Five individuals indicated that they were also interested in films/filmmaking.

Only 1 individual stated they were interested in the subject of bullying and that’s not surprising as most of the marketing effort has been directed toward fencing not bullying. Eight individuals stated they knew someone who had been bullied, so including those groups interested in bullying may bring in an additional potential audience.

Only 1 individual knew that C.A.T.S. was fiscally sponsored through Fractured Atlas and 4 stated they did not know what that meant.  More explanation of the fiscal sponsor status needs to occur.

In Fiscal Sponsorship a legally recognized 501(c)(3) provides oversight for a project which  does not have its own 501(c)(3) status. In this case, sponsorship by Fractured Atlas allows C.A.T.S. to solicit and receive tax-deductible donations.  It was easier, and less expensive, for C.A.T.S. to obtain fiscal sponsorship than to obtain its own 501 (c) (3) non-profit status.

Additionally, Fractured Atlas partnered with an organization called IndieGoGo.  IndieGoGo is a website where films can offer perks to individuals who donate to the project.  Perks can include signed posters, DVDs, etc. C.A.T.S. was listed on IndieGoGo in an effort to raise funds to film.

All 9 individuals stated that they had attended a fundraising event.  The highest response was 4 individuals who said they would be interested in an online auction.  Three were interested in an after networking event.  I expected more to be interested in business sponsorship but only 2 individuals listed this – perhaps those replying did not own their own business.

Seven individuals stated that they would be more interested in investing rather than donating.  An investor in film typically invests large sums of money in the hope that the film will do well at the box office.  A donor usually receives a tax-deduction for a non-profit (501 c 3) film but has no anticipation of any return.

Three individuals stated they had not donated to C.A.T.S. because they had other non-profits they donated to.  Two stated they couldn’t afford it, and 4 listed “other” which includes two who had donated.

Below are the actual questions and the number of responses.
