Last week Fractured Atlas (the Fiscal Sponsor) of C.A.T.S. partnered with IndieGoGo. This is great news.
IndieGoGo is a resource that allows independent filmmakers the chance to raise funds to make their movie by offering perks such as pre-selling DVDs, autographed props, coaching lessons, dinner with an actor (just about anything you can dream up), in exchange for a donation.
CARUSO AND THE SWORD is fiscally sponsored by a non-profit. There are no investors waiting to make money off this film. Many of you have expressed excitement at the idea of a family comedy featuring fencing. We need people who want to see a “Karate Kid with Swords” get made. So, we will be offering “perks” on the IndieGoGo site to raise funds to make the movie. Right now, we have offered pre-sales of the DVD for $20. We are only offering 1000 initially. We will be adding additional perks.
If you support the making of this film, please go to IndieGoGo site and donate $20. You will receive a DVD when the movie is completed. Also, if you have a website, Please post a link to IndieGoGo on your website. You can obtain a widget on the IndieGoGo site. IndieGoGo tracks where referrals come from and we would like to reward those who refer the most.
Also, we are looking for fencers, coaches, club owners, and others interested to serve on an Advisory Committee.
Many clubs and fencers are hurting for members, publicity, and financing. The Advisory Committee would offer input on ways that the making of the family comedy film CARUSO AND THE SWORD could help promote fencing, fencing clubs, and fencers through all phases of the production.
We expect the time commitment to be 2-4 hours per month but this would depend on the committee members.
If you are interested in serving on an Advisory Committee, or want more information, just reply to this email info@carusoandthesword.com .

I had breakfast with the Blair Witch.
Okay. I didn’t actually have breakfast with THE Blair Witch. But I had breakfast with the woman who wrote the business plan for The Blair Witch Project.
For a film project that is far more important. Contracts, business plans, financial planning, all the business-related stuff that people tend to not think about. There’s a great deal of behind the scenes planning that has to take place before a film, even a low budget film, even starts filming.
Are there enough people out there who even want to see a family comedy that features fencing?
I think there is. The task right now is to find them. To have those interested “like” the Facebook page and tell their friends about this project. To add their emails to the website database to receive email updates. Then when we start auditions we’ll keep everyone posted. We’ll have videos. We’ll let fans watch and maybe even vote on favorites.
